Zambian Embassy Determined To Raise The Country's Economic Profile

Zambia’s Ambassador to the US His Excellency Dr. Ngosa Simbyakula says he will priorities raising of Zambia’s economic profile in order to attract more foreign investment in the country.

The Ambassador said said this when Executive Vice-President of Walmart for Africa, India and Latin America Mr. Enrique Ostale called on him at the Embassy of Zambia in Washington D.C.

Dr. Simbyakula also urged Walmart (which operates as Massmart with three stores in Zambia namely Game Stores, Builders and Jumbo) to grow, and create more job opportunities for Zambians. He further called on the company to stock more Zambian products in their retail Stores in Zambia, by sourcing food locally as this would enhance agricultural value chains, as well as promote value additions.

Mr. Ostale was accompanied by Walmart Director, Global Government Affairs Mr. Adam Hemphil.

During the meeting officials discussed investments that Massmart has made in Zambia and how these investments help Walmart serve its customers and the larger community.

Walmart is a majority shareholder in Massmart Holding Ltd, and operates more than 400 stores in South Africa, Zambia and 12 other sub-Saharan countries.
