MINISTER OF INFRASTRUCTURE, HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT URGES DIPLOMATS TO UNDERSTAND THE ECONOMIC DIPLOMACY AGENDA OF PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA

Washington, DC, 11th March,2025 – Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Honourable Eng. Charles Lubasi Milupi, MP, has urged Diplomats to understand fully the Economic Diplomacy agenda of His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema.

And Engineer Milupi said the Private Public Partnership model of infrastructure is meant to open up Zambia for trade opportunities within the Southern Africa Development Community SADC region.

Mr. Milupi who is in the United States of America, is representing Zambia at the prestigious 2025 Transforming Transport Conference in Washington, D.C., USA, from 10th to 14th March 2025.

The conference is hosted by the World Bank and the World Resources Institute at the Ross Centre for Sustainable Cities, has convened global leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to discuss equitable, sustainable, and resilient transport infrastructure systems under the theme: “Driving Change, Delivering Solutions.”

In addressing Diplomats at the Zambian Embassy in Washington DC during his Courtesy visit, Mr. Milupi said Diplomats should be the front runners in championing Economic Diplomacy has set out by President Hakainde Hichilema.

“The position of the government is in Economic Diplomacy. Everyone representing the country should be able to understand the economic diplomacy agenda to which we are transitioning to. The direction the country is taking is economic diplomacy as stated by the President. We want to grow the economy to create opportunities for the people, create employment, increase revenue to the treasury and this will result in stability of the economy of the country. Improve social services such as Education, Health and Infrastructure,” said Mr. Milupi.

He said the desire of the Government and President Hakainde Hichilema is to grow the investment portfolio for the benefit of the Zambian people.

In terms of investments, Engineer Milupi should be able to attract the investment, as Government is doing its part in improving the infrastructure for investment back home.

“We are improving airports to have provincial airports so that the regional flights can land in the local tourist areas to boost our tourism destinations. For us to have markets, we are developing through the Private Public Partnerships (PPP) models.

Engineer Milupi later toured the Chancery and the four (4) government properties to appreciate the state they are in.
